Job Description:

SSAI is seeking a Research Scientist to support scientific analysis with the High Spectral Resolution Lidar (HSRL) team within the Science Directorate at NASA Langley Research Center. The applicant will study and develop techniques to analyze the optical and microphysical properties of cloud and aerosol retrievals from multi-wavelength airborne and ground-based lidar systems.  This work will include comparative analyses of lidar records with measurements and retrievals from surface and airborne in situ instruments and surface, airborne, and satellite remote sensing sensors. The successful candidate will characterize how aerosol properties vary near and below clouds and relate aerosol properties to cloud condensation nuclei concentrations. This person will also work with the HSRL team in the collection, processing, and analyses of airborne HSRL datasets and the analyses of associated data. This is an excellent opportunity for an energetic, self-starter with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree (M.S. or higher) in Atmospheric Physics, Meteorology, Space Science, or comparable field of study
  • Demonstrated experience with analysis software such as Matlab, IDL or C/C++
  • Capable of working both independently and within a dynamic science team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must, as demonstrated by first-author papers published in peer-reviewed publications, and/or oral presentations made at major science conferences.
  • US citizenship is required
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience working with and manipulating large data sets.
  • Strong mathematical and statistical skills.
