Job Description:
SSAI is seeking a Webmaster/Systems Engineer to fill a full-time position in the lidar remote sensing group at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. This position will work with and support the Micro Pulse Lidar Network (MPLNET) project, a global ground-based lidar network designed to measure aerosol and cloud vertical structure continuously, day and night, over long time periods required to contribute to climate change studies and provide ground validation for satellite sensors in the Earth Observing System (EOS) and related aerosol modeling and forecasting efforts.

The successful applicant will serve as the web master for MPLNET and provide programming support for the MPLNET operational data processing system (data communications, system archiving and backup, and assistance with maintenance/development of lidar data processing code).

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science (or related field) with experience in Linux based scientific programming
  • IDL 8+, web development and management (HTML, cgi scripting, http & https, apache configuration), FTP and SFTP applications, Linux crontab and shell scripting, and NETCDF (3 & 4) data formats.
  • Must be a self-starter, capable of developing innovative solutions to problems, willing to learn new things, and must work well in a group environment
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Eligibility to work in the US and ability to meet NASA's background investigation requirements for IT and physical access to NASA facilities
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with instrumentation and computer/instrument interfaces is a plus.
  • Desirable experience includes programming in Windows and Mac OS, and experience with other programming languages (C, Python, Matlab, Labview, etc)
