Happy 2nd Anniversary to NASA’s Earthdata Forum!

February 25, 2022 Data Management, Earth Science, Employee Spotlights, SSAI in the News, Technical Highlight, Technology Development

Developed by SSAI and Booz Allen Hamilton developers at the Atmospheric Science Data Center (ASDC), the Forum enables the scientific user community and subject matter experts from NASA Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAACs), along with a host of other contributors, to discuss research needs, data, and data applications.

Kudos to SSAI’s Karl Birkland, Karen Brown, Lisa Coleman, Michelle Cook, Sharon Dukes-Allen, Ingrid Garcia-Solera, Crystal Gummo, Susan Haberer, Renee Key, Cheyenne Land, Kureen Paige, Tracee Rice, Jennifer Tindell, Tonya G., Kristine Luttig, David Westberg, and our ASDC team members Renee Beck (Lingua Logica), Jason Hicks (AMA), Joseph Kock (BAH), Brian Tisdale (Projyct) and Farley Reynolds (BAH) for 2 years of amazing support!

The Forum serves as a cross-DAAC platform from which user communities can obtain authoritative information relating to NASA Earth Science. The ASDC DAAC, supported largely by SSAI staff, takes on the role of both Project Manager and Hosting Organization, leading and facilitates the project's efforts.

The Forum launched February 25, 2020 with five participating DAACs: Atmospheric Science Data Center (ASDC), Crustal Dynamics Data Information System (CDDIS), Goddard Earth Science Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC), Global Hydrology Resource Center (GHRC), and Land Processes DAAC (LP DAAC) and has since added Level 1 and Atmosphere Archive and Distribution System DAAC (LAADS), the Ocean Biology DAAC (OBDAAC) and Global Change Master Directory (GCMD).

The Forum assumes both a proactive and reactive approach to NASA products scientific queries, allowing the scientific community to ask questions about NASA's products, tools, and services and receive announcements and news regarding products, new data releases, and such.
