Congratulations to all the SSAIers whose hard work led to the DEVELOP Software Carpentry Team’s receipt of a NASA Honor Award - Silver Group Achievement Award!

Initially implemented as part of the program's response to the COVID-19 pandemic which forced the NASA DEVELOP program to quickly transition from an in-person, hands-on to a fully virtual experience for its participants, the teams’ Software Carpentry Workshops centralized all the training opportunities occurring at each DEVELOP node into one program to which all DEVELOP participants have equal access. This has greatly improved the overall experience of DEVELOP participants joining from all over the country.

Sean McCartney, one of the leading contributors for the team, had this to say:

“The virtual Software Carpentry experience has greatly expanded the impact of the DEVELOP program in teaching DEVELOP participants the computing skills they’ll need to be effective in their research. This aligns with DEVELOP’s stated mission of building capacity in both participants and partner organizations to better prepare them to address the challenges that face our society, fostering an adept corps of tomorrow’s scientists and leaders.”
