SSAI In The News

This week, the Earth to Sky team hosted events at the National Association for Interpretation Annual Conference to help interpreters - educators like park rangers who help people emotionally connect to places - connect to NASA and NPS resources.   

SSAI's Geneviève de Messières, Hazel Galloway, and Ruth Paglierani teamed up with Joshua Tree National Park Association to lead a workshop entitled “The Heat is On," geared at helping interpreters learn to engage audiences on complex and crucial topics such as climate change.

The workshop participants talked with experts such as JPL's freshwater researcher JT Reager, learned about audience centered engagement from a former National Park Service trainer, and explored resources such as a high-resolution Landsat image of the park created by SSAI's Allison Nussbaum. The workshop participants crafted their own plans for engaging their audiences at their home sites with climate science themes.  

During the conference, Geneviève and Hazel hosted a booth and a panel discussion to recruit new community leaders to Earth to Sky, while SSAI's Anita Davis hosted a virtual booth for remote participants in the hybrid conference.  

Earth to Sky is growing partnership between NASA, the National Park Service (NPS), and other federal agencies as well as state and local organizations. The aim of the program is to provide resources for interpreters and environmental educators to better access and use NASA science in their work.
