Womens History Month - Jyothi Nattala
by Jaha Knight
Jyothi is a senior Scientific Programmer/Analyst at SSAI, working within the Advanced Topographic Laser Altimeter System (ATLAS) Science Algorithm Software (ASAS) group, in support of NASA's Ice, Cloud, and Land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) spacecraft mission, part of NASA's Earth Observing System.
Prior to joining ICESat-2, she was a Research Scientist in support of the Global Modeling and Assimilation Office (GMAO), on processing and validation of the global 7-km non-hydrostatic (NH) mesoscale Nature Run (NR) simulations using NASA’s Goddard Earth Observing System model (GEOS-5). She conducted simulations to test parameter dependence for GEOS-5 cloud microphysics updates.
Currently, Jyothi works within the ICESat-2 ASAS/Science Investigator-Led Processing Systems (SIPS) team in the production of Standard ICESat-2 Data Products, interacting directly with the ICESat-2 Science Team Inland Water Group, leading the implementation of ATLAS algorithms for Inland Surface Water Data Products ATL13/22. These algorithms retrieve operational global surface water elevations, depth measurements, and features (snow and ice amounts over inland water bodies and near-shore coastal regions) from the spaceborne ICESat-2 observations.
Below are some images of the work Jyothi does for our team!
Support of ICESat-2 Science Team and Implementation Inland Water Products and Hydrology Applications.
Over 1.4 million lakes are monitored globally using the Inland Water (IW) products, ranging from the Great Lakes down to ponds. The plot shows retrieved water elevations (2018 to 2021) relative to the EGM2008 geoid over Lake Mead, at the product segment level.
We appreciate all the hard work and dedication Jyothi has provided to contributing to our missions and we invite you to read up on our previous highlight, Desiray Wilson, and invite you to check our page later for our last highlight of the month, Claudia Carabajal.
