Congratulations to the Landsat Communications Team on their receipt of a Communicator Award of Distinction for their 2021 Camp Landsat website!
Sharing a love of our planet with support for NASA Earth Observatory
SSAI has a long history of supporting NASA’s Earth Observatory website, and watching it grow from its humble beginnings over 20 years ago to the essential Earth science data resource it is today. We asked one of our Science Writers to share with us what it means to be part of this important project.
Upper-troposphere, lower-stratosphere aerosol package successfully flight-tested for high-altitude airborne science
NASA, SSAI, and the University of Denver have developed and flight-tested the instrument package Particles in the Upper Troposphere and Lower Stratosphere (PUTLS), which characterizes the microphysical properties atmospheric aerosol from the NASA high-altitude aircraft.
SSAI’s Colin Seftor uses Aerosol Index data to study impact of Saharan Dust Storms this Spring
Saharan dust covered many parts of Europe throughout March 2022. SSAI’s Colin Seftor, an expert in the use of a satellite data product known as the Aerosol Index (AI), was on hand to help better understand how this unique type of weather event called a Dust-Infused Baroclinic Storm (DIBS) is formed and why it occurs.
Celebrating Earth Day 2022
SSAIers have been busy helping to plan and lead events in celebration of Earth Day 2022.
Expanding the AERONET network, one instrument at a time
SSAI’s David Giles (from NASA’s AERONET program out of Goddard Space Flight Center) recently visited the San Jose campus of the University of Costa Rica and trained members of the Ticosonde project to align and maintain their new AERONET instrument on the roof of the university’s Gas Lab.
